Tracker by Gary PaulsenFor John Borne's family, hunting has nothing to do with sport or manliness. It's a matter of survival. Every fall John and his grandfather go off into the woods to shoot the deer that puts meat on the table over the long Minnesota winter. But this year John's grandfather is dying, and John must hunt alone. John tracks a doe for two days, but as he closes in on his prey, he realizes he cannot shoot her. For John, the hunt is no longer about killing, but about life. Gary Paulsen is one of the most honored writers of contemporary literature for young readers, author of three Newbery Honor titles, Dogsong , Hatchet , and The Winter Room.
I need a summary of the book 'Tracker' by Gary Paulsen.?
In Chapter 1, John Borne has breakfast with his grandparents. Thirteen year-old John has lived with his grandparents since the age of four, when his parents were killed in a plane crash. John attempts to see that his grandfather is dying, but he cannot see it. The family has long made all their own meat by hunting, and it is easy to see death on a dying animal. Clay carries on as if nothing is different, making wood carvings and playing jokes. He even comments that the inch of snow on the ground outside will make tracking easier for hunting deer. John is stunned, however, when Clay announces that John must hunt alone this year.
