I put my deposit on my DJ 12 months out and it enabled me to lock in prices. His prices have since increased so I am happy about it. If you know for sure that it's the DJ you want to work with, why not? We booked our DJ early too but that's only because we had already heard him at a wedding and liked him then. If the person you want is already taking bookings that far out, though, there is nothing wrong with doing it now.
