When they use a narrative structure first this happened, then that, and that, and that , writers can bring nonfiction material to life using many of the techniques of the storyteller: characterization, dramatic tensions, plot, foreshadowing, etc. Narrative nonfiction provides kids with information in a format that is familiar and interesting to them. There are several reading level formulas that assign a number to indicate the level of a given piece of writing.
