Though it began regional dance form, taught and practiced mainly in Orissa, Odissi dance training is now offered in different parts of the world, and both instructors and students come from diverse cultural backgrounds. The milieu of training is greatly influenced by technological, cultural, and demographic change; the changing environment and diversity in students and teachers requires Odissi dance instructors, both in India and outside, to reflect upon their instructional methodology. Instructors must design curriculums that can help students gain a broad knowledge of the dance form and maintain a standard in the quality of Odissi dance education. We have an opportunity to incorporate new methods that can address the needs of the present day learners with a program of study that is comprehensive, engaging, and effective in nurturing excellence and creativity. This paper discusses some relevant points for curriculum making and aims to propose a wide-ranging approach for curriculum design in Odissi dance education.
