Renting is by far the predominant means of acquiring books on my campus, which I originally mistook for a sign of good, old-fashioned Midwestern frugality. But in talking with my students, I have since learned that there is much more to the story where renting is concerned. And besides, they explained, the campus bookstore only stocks rental copies.

Not all texts qualify for rental. Not included are older editions, texts packaged with software or other items and loose-leaf or perforated page books. Honestly consider the likelihood that at the end of the semester you will return your rented books by the date you specified in your rental agreement. Are you one of those people who tends to rack up overdue fines on library books? Right here — cash for books, done. Book prices and the frequency at which new editions are released is determined by publishers and not every book is suitable for rental. For example, books packaged with software, access codes, or those containing loose or perforated pages are not eligible for the program.
Rent-A-Text is a low-cost option for acquiring your course materials. You can pay for your rental books the same way you would if you were purchasing new or used books, using a credit card, debit card, check, cash or with your financial aid. You can rent books at any Ivy Tech bookstore or online. Do not rent your textbook if you believe there is a risk you may not return the book on time. These additional charges will be posted to the debit or credit card you used for collateral when you signed up to rent.

The Bookstore also offers the option to rent textbooks for a significantly lower price than buying them, as well as many etextbooks, which can be rented or purchased.
