How Far to Bethlehem? by Norah Lofts

The Star of Bethlehem , or Christmas Star , [1] appears only in the nativity story of the Gospel of Matthew , where "wise men from the East" Magi are inspired by the star to travel to Jerusalem. We have come to pay homage to the newborn king of the Jews. Secretly intending to find and kill the Messiah in order to preserve his own kingship, Herod invites the wise men to return to him on their way home. The star leads them to Jesus' home in the town, where they worship him and give him gifts. The wise men are then given a divine warning not to return to Herod, so they return home by a different route. Many Christians believe the star was a miraculous sign.

Hillsong - Gloria (Angels we have heard on high) - Lyrics

On a quiet, calm night in Bethlehem, heaven's light broke through the darkness with the birth of Christ. Shepherds and wise men joined a host of angels to rejoice in this divine arrival on earth.

Bethlehem The Musical

Where was Jesus born? The three wise men, along with their caravan, and angels gather around the child. In the Bible, the answer seems straightforward: Bethlehem. This has caused some to wonder if Jesus was actually born in Nazareth. The contrast between Bethlehem, the birthplace of King David, and Nazareth, a small agricultural village, is obvious. Yet both sites were significant in the life of Jesus.

But telling stories about the origins and meaning of the holiday for very young children is a bit more daunting. Two new holiday picture books rise to the challenge, presenting the Nativity story to young readers, each with a very different approach. The birds talk to one another, and set the scene for young children. The birds witness everything and describe it all: the inn full of visitors, the shepherds gathering. They even see an angel appear in the sky. This is not a dramatic story of trumpeters blasting and little drummer boys; the mood is instead one of hushed awe and contemplation. From the opening spread, the author plunges the reader into the imaginary world of Kelly and her little brother, Franklin, who play-act the Nativity story on a snowy late afternoon outdoors.

Bethlehem The Musical is a brilliant new nativity that charts the exciting events leading up to one very special night in Bethlehem. This all-singing, all-dancing, minute production weaves the extraordinary story of the birth of Jesus into the ordinary lives of the people of Bethlehem and draws on the important themes of community and hospitality.
