Peaks and Valleys – Actionable BooksI say in a good way, not critically. I think I was the only person in the US who thought the first was dumb. My husband gave it to me to read after he did, he loved it, and I was I passed on Peaks and Valleys because of my impression of the first one. I think I just don't go abstract enough for a parable to hit home, just sort of felt like I was reading a kids book. I think you're right, Joe.
Peaks and Valleys: A Short Film
Summary and Review of “Peaks and Valleys” by Spencer Johnson
He said it was a philosophy with skills—a way of looking at things and doing things that makes you calmer and more successful in good and bad times. You have a great few days at work, followed by a rough week. Why does life have so many ups and downs and what can you do about it? Spencer Johnson, author of Peaks and Valleys , believes that peaks and valleys in life, like their physical counterparts, are not only natural but should be encouraged. Johnson explains through a short parable the value in acknowledging that everyone has ups and downs. There is no shame in acknowledging that not every day is the best day ever.
John Dossett's crisp and polished delivery is a natural fit for Johnson's no-nonsense style of motivational storytelling. Dossett chooses to understate the pathos, projecting a tone of wistful contemplation instead of heavy drama. Both the story and the narrative within the story surround dialogue between a weary day-to-day corporate warrior and a seasoned sage who offers a broader perspective on our familiar notions of success, achievement and happiness. In light of the current economic climate, listeners will find the messages timely, even if the paradigm shifts may not seem especially original. As an added bonus, the audio book includes an interview with the author sharing how he strives to keep the public focused on his message instead of elevating him into a celebrity business guru.
